Face 81.

My name is Meganne and I am 16 years old. I am a Filipino-British fashion, print and commercial model. I have 10 years’ experience successfully modeling for brands like Marks and Spencer, Monsoon, BHS, ASDA, Tesco, Zara and Next.

When I was a little girl, I loved performing in my living room in front of my family. I loved to pose in front of the camera and my mum would always take photos of me. I spent hours in my room looking through magazines, hoping it would be me modelling someday. I was very happy when I won the Barking & Dagenham Post and Vicarage Field Shopping Centre’s Model search 2006. I was only 5 years old and I knew I had started the journey to achieving my dream.

When I was much younger, I prepared myself for rejection because modeling is such a competitive industry. I have attended many shoots, some successful and others unsuccessful. I am learning not to take the rejections personally and I keep reminding myself that persistence and determination are key to success.

Teenage years are challenging, especially now that girls try to look their best in public.

Through my modeling experiences, I have discovered that expressing myself in a positive light and feeling comfortable with who I am is so important. My confidence has grown, and I can say that I am so proud of who I am becoming. I am also learning that my judgement of others is based on how I actually see myself. I think everyone is beautiful in their own way and I truly believe that beauty comes from within. I believe that if we have integrity and a positive attitude, we are far more likely to be successful and happy with ourselves.

My biggest struggle so far is prioritizing school activities. I often have to miss school to attend shoots, making it hard to stay up-to-date with school work. Although it is quite tough, I know that education is important, so I make it a priority also.

In ten years, I would like to be in a position where I can mentor, sharing my knowledge and experiences with others, and helping them achieve their dream. I would also like to start my own business in this field that I am very passionate about. However, my aim for now is to major in something I enjoy instead of pursuing a degree that would lead to a pay check but brings unfulfilment.

An advice to myself and other young people is, ‘Be positive and be yourself’. One of the clients that I worked for once told me that the reason she loves working with me is because I create such a positive environment and I don’t try to be something I’m not. I have learnt very quickly that if my mood is negative, it will create a tense and unhappy environment and that being real is such an important quality.
